How to use Placeholdr

Placeholders are card-sized inserts that keep the spot of the cards you don't have yet: your binder already looks complete and you can see at a glance what's missing.

  1. Choose what to print

In Set, pick the catalogue (International or Japan), the set and the collection: Base (printed numbering only), Complete (secret cards too) or Master (plus one copy per reverse holo or first edition). Filter by card type if you only want, say, the Trainers. In Pokédex, choose generations, a range (1-151) or individual numbers.

  2. Mark the cards you already have

Click or tap a card in the preview to stamp it GOT IT, and click again to undo. Turn on “Print only missing cards” to leave them out of the PDF. Your checklist is saved in this browser: export it to CSV from time to time as a backup, or to move it to another computer.

  3. Set up the printing

Choose the language of the card names and labels, the paper (A4 or Letter), black & white to save ink, and whether you want black borders, cutting guides and images. Without images, the cards only carry drawn symbols and the Pokédex number.

  4. Download and print

Press Download PDF and print at 100 % (“Actual size”), never “Fit to page”: otherwise the cards won't measure 63 × 88 mm and won't fit the pockets. Print one sheet and check it with a ruler before printing the rest. Thicker paper (160-200 g/m²) makes sturdier placeholders.

  5. Cut

The cards are printed edge to edge, so each cut separates two of them: 4 vertical and 4 horizontal cuts per sheet. Line up the ruler or the guillotine with the marks in the margin. With black borders, follow the thin white line between two cards; without them, the dashed line.

  6. Into the binder

Slide each placeholder into its pocket. When you get the real card, swap it in and click its placeholder in the preview to mark it as yours.

Everything runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded and you don't need an account. The first time you open a set it takes a few seconds to download its data; after that it's cached.
